Thinking Cap on.....

Seeing as my computer is driving me mad as it is soooo slow, I thought now would be a good time to think about a 'Challenge' which my hubbie and I joined up with the other day.

It's being run by one of my favourite local Crafty / Textiles shop and is in aid of Cancer Care as a celebration of their 5th Birthday.

Right.....

The theme is 'It Started with a Square' and we need to produce either:
Class 1: A hanging/ quilt/ picture no largether than 1 metre
Class 2: A 3D item - a bag, cushion, box, book etc

As part of it we have to incorporate some of their Texere Variety Thread packets (variety of differnt threads) and can be made from any textile medium and by any technique. At the end we all get to display our products at a big exhibition locally so a good way to advertise as well as helping CancerCare.

AAAAAAARGH! Why do I get myself into these things? So now have to get my thinking cap on and decide what to do.....not helped by the fact that we were proudly told by the shop owners that they already had over a hundred people entering!!! No Pressure then!!

So far the idea is to embroider the threads together using soluble film to make a square which can then be incorporated into a felted bag.....I'll probably change my mind by tomorrow so will let you know what I come up with!!

Easter Eggs

Managed to get some of the Felted Easter Eggs finished today, decided to be really arty farty and take pictures of them hanging from a bush outside......mmmm not such a good idea, the wind was blowing a gale and I nearly ended up losing them over the hedge!! Still, managed to get some photos done in the end, may have to re-do some on a not so windy day!

First Felting Workshop

I've made it through my first ever Felting Workshop (that I've led!) After starting off really nervous this morning, it was great! Just a smallish group of eight plus my two kids who came to join in. It went brilliantly, very informal, everyone seemed to enjoy themselves and went home with some great pieces. My little man with his High Speed Train!!

Yesterday we had spent the day out looking for little treasure boxes by Lake Windermere (otherwise known as Geocaching! see www.geocaching.com. After sorting out all the clues, we then realised we were on the wrong side of the lake so ended up abandoning that one for the day! However on our way back to the car we found a whole stash of really old glass bottles just lying by a tree. They have been doing loads of tree work in the are and had obviously dug them up in the process. We bundled as many as we could carry into our bags and brought them home to go into the ' it''ll come in handy one day' pile!! Just couldn't leave them there, they look really pretty and unusual, I'm sure we'll think of something to do with them soon!! It was a lovely clear day here and the kids had great fun climbing trees and getting out in the fresh air.

Bleurgh!!

Today has just been one of those days...you know the ones, you wake up in the morning, have lots of plans for the day but just can't get yourself out of bed. Then, when you eventually drag yourself out, the energy alien has come and zapped all your energy away so your brains feels fuzzy and your body just won't do what it's supposed to......or is it that just me?

Needless to say, I didn't get much done today, managed to wet-felt some Easter eggs to be decorated another day and sat on my butt most of the rest of the day! Really need to go to bed now......

So many lovely things, so little money!!

First....we have pictures! The new Funky Banner which is now in my shop.

The braiding which was used is also available as a seperate item. These can be used for piping, edging, strings, necklaces and any other uses which you can think off.

Today we had a few bits and pieces to take care off in town, I should know by now not to go near the place as I always end up spending far too much money on things I supposedly desperately need! Well, today was no different, I made the fatal mistake of going into my favourite sewing / crafty shop 'just to have a look'. Mmmmmm, so many pretty things, so much I could do with them, it was just meant to be.....wasn't it?!

Ok I spent far too much money I shouldn't have been spending, managed to get myself drawn into a Crafty Competition in aid of Cancer Care and even my hubby decided to join in and do the same!! The 'just having a look' turned into some new needle felting needles, a lovely wooden needle holder, some gorgeous Sari Yarn and two packs of Textured Yarn to be used in the competition. Oh well, could have been worse....and the competitions in a good cause!!

What no pictures??!

Yes, alright I am having major problems trying to get any photos on my blog! I was going to show you all my new Funky Flag Banner and some new Braids I now have in my shop .......but can't!!

Will try again tomorrow but in the mean time have a look at my Folksy shop because..........drum roll.......... I have a lovely new Banner and Avator !! Designed for me by 'Momo Made by Moaby' (http://www.folksy.com/shops/MoMoaby) on Folksy, great service, really quick and extremely patient!! It turned out lovely and I am really pleased with it. Much more fun and 'me' than my old one.

Sloooow Sunday

Not really done very much today, had a run out to pick up some used Vegetable oil for hubby's new Bio Diesel project, ate McDonalds for lunch (not on the Slimmers World diet but hey!!) and finished the braid for my banners. Oh....and got some yummy chocolate Brazil nuts (also not on Slimmers World diet!) and managed to eat about four while my poor starved children scoffed the rest!!

Just a lazy Sunday, I guess after nearly 18 years of marriage, Valentine's Day doesn't hold the same excitement anymore, or maybe we are just getting boring in our 'not too old' age! Still.. 18 years is pretty good going nowadays so we must be doing something right!

Just before the McDonalds we did manage to go to the library to stock up on reading material. I now have a good book on modern art to delve into for one of my next projects, which will be coming up shortly.....

Square Eyes!

It feels like I have been sat in front of the computer all day today, trying to decide the background for this blog. Wow, I never knew there were so many free options out there to make blogs look lovely!!

Here are a few of the ones I have waded through today:

www.thecutestblogontheblock.com
www.hotbliggityblog.com
www.backgroundfairy.com

I'm still not totally convinced so it may change every so often depending on what mood I'm in!!

In between while the computer was going soooo sloooowly and driving me insane I was busy making a long coloured braid to hold up a knitted banner (soon to be in my Folksy shop.) Very theraputic and I can even get it done while the kids run around like mad things with friends in tow...great!! Hopefully I'll be able to get some pictures tomorrow and maybe even get it finished.

I was wondering while making these braids whether these may sell in their own right? mmmm, will have to investigate....

Venturing into Blogging......

Well, alright I have blogged before but never for my craft business so I guess this would classify as venturing, wouldn't it?

Everyone seems to be blogging now, so I decided it was about time I got on the band wagon and got out there too. So for all you who don't know me, I am a mother of two lovely children, who are both Home Educated, wife of a brilliant Handyman and owner of WoollyLakes! We are fortunate enough to live in a beautiful part of the UK (hence the name!) and enjoy finding little treasure boxes (otherwise know as Geocaching) in this amazing area. This blog will be a bit about our lives, a bit about the area we live in and a bit about what WoollyLakes is up to next......hope you can join me soon.

The blog will probably be quite basic until I figure out how it all works so bear with me xx
